Mathey-Tissot, a Swiss watch maker of prestige and complicated timepieces, originally established in 1886 by Edmond Mathey-Tissot at Les Ponts-de-Martel in Neuchâtel Switzerland. Edmond started to specialize in complications resulting in high grade minute repeating and famous split-seconds pocket watches in the end of the 19th century earning a number of awards given out by the Kew Observatory due to his incredibly well made movements. Mathey-Tissot is not to be confused with the Swiss brand Tissot as there is no relation whatsoever between the two brands. Mathey-Tissot watches come less often to the market, as being produced in small batches. Due to the high expertise of the Mathey-Tissot family and employees, these watches are always perfectly finished, being, as such, highly collectible. This exquisite chronograph, built around a superb and signed Valjoux 23, is the perfect classy-yet-slightly-sporty dress watch. It remains in completely original and exceptionally good condition. Its 35mm rose gold ‘waterproof’ case is extremely elegant, yet very strong featuring a polygonal screw back case and desirable pump pushers. Multiple clear French 18 carat gold hallmarks. Its creamy unrestored dial shows enough simplicity to be worn tucked under a crisp white shirt. The blued chronograph hands and blue tachymeter scale add the touch of sophistication which makes this watch a killer. As simple as it sounds. The Valjoux Cal. 23 VZ is a celebrated hand-winding chronograph movement in the Valjoux 72 family produced from 1916 through 1974. The movement is clean and running smoothly, with all chronograph functions working flawlessly.
