The dial is made of gold, as indicated by the ‘Aprior’ marks found on either side of the word ‘Swiss’ below 6 o’clock. Its surface is a rich blue with a stunning sunray effect that changes with the light, complemented by applied gold faceted hour markers and gold ‘Dauphine’ hands. Interestingly, the design of the Golden Ellipse was inspired by the principle of the 'golden ratio', discovered by ancient Greek mathematicians. This 'divine' proportion, expressed as a ratio of 1:1.6181, has formed the basis of some of history’s greatest works of art and architecture. E.
