But with this A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange Tourbillon Pour Le Mérite, that's exactly what we see. A timepiece built to the highest possible standards in both design, engineering and finishing. The Glashütte-based brand is renowned for its range of incredible timepieces, but this particular model is exemplary even by the brand's own standards. The title "Pour le Merite" identifies it as the pinnacle of the Lange manufactory's horological accomplishments. Indeed, this timepiece represents the first time that the complications within have ever been combined in this manner. On the front we see an argenté-coloured silver dial that builds on the concept of scientific pocket watches with so-called "regulator" dials, arranged so that the hours, minutes and seconds each have their own sector and neatly overlap, ensuring superb legibility. Visible through the front dial aperture is the tourbillon whose total construction weighs in at only a quarter of a gram, ensuring minimal power draw and superb timekeeping accuracy. Through the sapphire display caseback we get more of an insight into its inner workings. The watch features a fusée-and-chain transmission, ensuring even power output at all stages of winding. It all features Lange's patented stop-seconds mechanism which allows the watch to be set to one-second accuracy. As with all Lange watches, the movement is of course lavishly finished, with the three-quarter bridge (a trademark of German watchmaking) featuring a Côtes de Genève stripped finish and hand-finished bevels done using the l’anglage technique. On the lower plates and part of the balance-cock we see a spectacularly even perlage pattern. All the bridges are anodised with a nickel-copper-zinc composite, giving the bridges a golden-hue that we’ve not seen on any other movement bar those from A. Lange & Söhne. The gears are finished with a sunburst-like wavy finish. The component screws are black-polished for ultimate shine, while the bridge retaining screws are all flame blued. Last, but certainly not least, the watch’s balance bridge features a hand-engraved floral pattern that is totally unique to the watch. The watch is fitted on a reddish-brown A. Lange & Söhne alligator leather strap. The strap is fitted with a matching Lange rose gold folding clasp. This A.
