Description
6605 1815 Up/Down Blue 221.027 2003 Box and Papers The Up/Down is a key part of A. Lange & Sohne's 1815 collection, named after the birth year of the company's founder. Its design comes from a pocket watch which was patented in 1879, which contains both a power reserve and running seconds subdial sitting across the dial from each other. In 1997, it was reintroduced as one of the second round of watches following the brand's initial relaunch in 1994. This blue dial version is both rare and distinct, only being produced between 1997 and 2001. It was a design shift away from the brand's earlier yellow gold and white dial watches, taking on a very contemporary feel with a monochromatic blue dial complemented with white metal and printing.\n\nIt's a true neo-vintage watch, at just 35.9mm. The case is polished with a brushed case band, for an added textural contrast. On the reverse is the cal. L942.1, which is decorated with Glashutte striping, screwed gold chatons and a hand-engraved balance. On older watches like this, the German silver bridge components take on a stunning warm patina that gives it incredible depth. A.
