Previously I was not familiar with Armand Nicolet watches...but I was immediately impressed by the history and expertise of the Tramelan manufactory and also very surprised that these little-known watches can easily compete with other high-quality names and their own manufactory or even supply them.
The story of Armand Nicolet, the son of a watchmaker, began around 1875 in Tramelan, a small town in the Bernese Jura, when he founded his "Atelier d'Horlogerie".
In 1902, the watchmaker won the recognition of his contemporaries by producing a pocket watch with large complications, guilloché in rose gold, with an enamel dial, single-pusher chronograph, full calendar and hour, quarter and minute repeater. A technical masterpiece for this era.
Armand Nicolet created high-quality, precise and aesthetic masterpieces that still attract the interest of collectors today. In the 1930s, one of the most advanced watchmaking workshops in terms of finishing and assembly was created, using complex mechanical movements. The rise of the "rattrappante" chronographs already made it possible to measure phenomena that start at the same time and are of different durations. The Nicolet Manufacture was thus a reference in terms of calibers and supplied numerous Swiss brands.
In the 1940s, his son Willy continued to develop the family business and turned Armand Nicolet's production workshop into one of the largest in the region. In 1987, the meeting with Rolando Braga, a brilliant Italian entrepreneur with a flair for the art of watchmaking, marked the beginning of the collaboration between Italian design and Swiss savoir-faire.
