The company has been family-owned since its inception and has over the decades, established itself as one of the preeminent watchmakers in the world. Audemars Piguet also holds the distinction of introducing what is considered to be the first luxury sports watch to the world. The Royal Oak collection was first unveiled at the 1972 Baselworld in the midst of the Quartz Crisis. The Royal Oak was designed by Gérald Genta, one of the most important and influential watchmakers in horology history, who was also responsible for other notable luxury sports watches that have stood the test of time such as the Patek Philippe Nautilus and the Bulgari Octo. The Reference 25977 is an expansion of the Royal Oak design that was launched in 2003 featuring two highly coveted complications: the chronograph and the tourbillon. Its ten year production run saw two iterations: a sportier dial configuration with a red accented blue dial and the present example featuring a black monochrome dial with Audemars Piguet’s signature Tappiserie design. Powered by the manual wound calibre 2889 that has a frequency of 21,6000 vph and a power reserve of up to 72 hours. We are pleased to offer this delightful timepiece that highlights the best of luxury sports watches complete with its original box and papers.
