Launched in the 1980s, the Cord’Or was realised in several iterations such as the References SA 6050.592 and BA 6050.592 with integrated bracelet or the SA 6051.002 and BA 6051.002 on a strap like our present timepiece. The name originates from the exquisite craftsmanship of the case featuring twisted gold rope which plays with the leather strap or bracelet, giving it a stitched effect. The dial is embellished with the same twisted rope detail on the quarter indices and hands. True to Audemars Piguet, the timepiece features an ultra-thin quartz calibre 2502. The present timepiece is especially rare as it was retailed by one of the most important jewelers of the 20th century: Fred Joaillier. One of the first importers of Japanese cultured pearls to France, Fred Samuel disrupted the jewelry industry and his bold designs captured the silver screen stars such as Mary Pickford, Barbara Hutton and Marlene Dietrich. With boutiques in Paris, New York, Monte Carlo, and Geneva, the company was also a distributor for watch brands such as Piaget, Rolex, and Audemars Piguet, before being acquired by LVMH in 1995.
