In the year 2000, Audemars Piguet created a remarkable timepiece to celebrate its 125th anniversary, limited to just 125 pieces. The Star Wheel watch, featuring a mesmerizing complication, incorporates three rotating sapphire discs to display the time.
The captivating complication of this watch, initially developed in the 17th century for Pope Alexander XII to enhance nighttime legibility, involved the use of rotating discs that could be easily illuminated by the light of an oil lamp. In the contemporary realm of watchmaking, this exceptional timepiece combines the rare mechanism with the distinctive case design from the renowned Millenary collection, celebrated for its elliptical shape. Hence, this watch impeccably embodies the fusion of traditional watchmaking and modern design when adorned on the wrist. This beautiful example being presented was purchased brand new by the owner in Taipei in December 2000, and it comes complete with all its accessories. It has been meticulously maintained, never undergoing any polishing, and still showcases a sharp case and deeply engraved caseback.
