A proud exponent of reference 5582BA, this specific model was in production from 1981 to 1988, with only 12 pieces made: 10 in yellow gold and just 2 in white gold, according to scholars. Produced in 1984, the present ultra-thin yellow-gold Quantième Perpétuel is numbered “005′ on the caseback and has been remarkably preserved. This watch is powered by the 2120 calibre, which, at 3.95 mm thick, was the thinnest automatic perpetual calendar movement in the world at that time. The quite generous 36 mm case is made of solid yellow gold, as is the integrated bracelet, both of which are adorned with factory-set round brilliant diamonds by Audemars Piguet. The overall effect is mesmerizing. Special attention must be given to the bracelet, which features an unusual structure composed of links with a row of diamonds interspersed with another row of 5 small spheres, showcasing absolutely incredible craftsmanship. The intricate skeleton dial, with the iconic four subdials for the perpetual calendar and moon phases, continues the lavish decoration of the case and bracelet. It further adds a touch of preciousness with 12 brilliant-cut diamond indexes. The hand-engraved central rotor visible through the back is a feat of engineering and craftsmanship, reserved only for the most important timepieces.
