Before complicated watches were a luxury fashion statement, they were originally created for technical uses, especially for pilots, auto racers, military officers, and anyone who demanded absolute precision in their timing. One of the rarest features on these vintage chronographs is the split-seconds or "rattrapante" function, a capability that allows the wearer to time two events concurrently. The watch works by allowing the wearer to press the lower pusher to stop the chronograph while it is in action to time a second event, and when finished, release the lower pusher to resume timing the first event the chronograph hand snaps to where it would have been if the lower pusher had not been held down. This vintage Bovet Monorattrapante is in need of restoration. The steel casing is unpolished. The original dial is not nice but its original and can be restored. Exterior condition in a well used condition well worth restoring. Movement with its Valjoux 48 and chronograph part is in good condition and works well. The split second function patented by Bovet in 1939 on a Valjoux 84 movement. As a so-called "mono-rattrapante" or "single split-seconds chronograph", it is brother to the rattrapante. But different from the rattrapante, it accomplishes the feat of timing two events using only one sweep hand. Much more can be read online about this model. Has been completely disassembled as the drive spring was broken. The dial is not the best but Original untouched. Should be easy to restore by professionals.
