Around 1786, Breguet invented and introduced dials in a completely new style, guilloché in silver or gold. Hand guilloché remains one of the hallmarks of a Breguet watch. The brand's famous guilloché dials are instantly recognizable. Their elegance and refinement are an exact reflection of the movement's ingenious mechanisms. The famous Breguet hands, with an off-centered and hollowed-out "apple", have adorned the brand's creations for over two centuries. Designed around 1783, this new shape seduced with its elegance and the hand was an immediate success. The term "Breguet hand" soon entered the watchmakers' everyday vocabulary. These sober and very readable hands adorn most Breguet models. Fluting, the fine grooves executed on the case middle of watch cases and decorated with two superimposed fillets, are an integral part of the sober and refined decorative motifs of the “Breguet style”. The fluting typical of Breguet cases is achieved by “work hardening” the gold and is worked by hand on a fixed mechanical support.
