The launch of their Coin Watches in 1964 put Corum on the radar of watch collectors globally with their innovative design which incorporated a watch with an ultra-thin movement into a 20 dollar gold coin as its case. Similarly, the 1980s saw a period of great innovation with the introduction of The Golden Bridge collection that positioned the watches as design pieces. Produced in very small quantities, these timepieces were the first to incorporate the now famous vertical bridge-shaped movement that can be admired through the skeletonized design. The success of the Golden Bridge collection led to the development and introduction of the Ti-Bridge collection in 2009, which housed Corum’s second in-house movement: the calibre CO 007. The Ti-Bridge was heavily inspired by its predecessor the Golden Bridge collection, and is similarly powered by a linear movement, only instead of orienting the movement vertically, the movement is oriented horizontally in the Ti-bridge. The present example is a Piece Unique crafted specifically for Corum Mexico in 2011. The dial features the signature Distrito Federal, which was the name for the capital city of Mexico prior to 2016, and the case back features an outline of the map of Mexico, and is inscribed ‘México 2011 edición los estados mexicanos’ and ‘Pieza única’ attesting to its rarity.
