The company’s motto ‘Invenit et Fecit’, meaning invented and made, highlights how every component of every watch was invented and made in-house. This commitment to excellence has fueled the trend towards Independent watchmakers of the highest caliber in watch collecting today. Born in Marseille, France in 1957, Journe began his watchmaking journey in his uncle Michel’s watch restoration workshop. Inspired by the treasures crafted by horological greats such as Abraham-Louis Breguet and George Daniels that passed through the workshop, Journe sought to infuse traditional horological innovation with modernity in his own work. It wasn’t long before Journe received commissions from private collectors and established watch brands. The desire for creative freedom and recognition as an inventor and artist prompted Journe to open his own manufacture and carry onward the spirit of masters past who propelled the industry forward. Debuted in 2005, the Chronomètre Souverain is a precision chronometer inspired by Marine chronometers of the early 19th century. The ultra thin movement is only 4 mm thick, with 18k pink gold base plate and bridges. The two barrels of the homogeneous movement deliver a highly linear force to the escapement and have a power reserve of over 56 hours and a frequency of 21,600 vph. Its traditional yet at the same time unexpected look emblematic of F. P. Journe creations, the Chronomètre Souverain is the ultimate everyday luxury so much so that it received the Best Men’s Watch Prize at the Geneva Grand Prix d’Horlogerie the same year it was launched.
