François-Paul Journe, born in 1957 in Marseille, is a French master watchmaker renowned for his innovative approach and respect for watchmaking traditions. He graduated from the École d'Horlogerie de Paris in 1976, and perfected his art alongside his uncle, an antique watch restorer based in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Professional background : - Independent workshop: After completing his studies, Journe opened his own workshop in Paris, where he dedicated himself to restoring exceptional timepieces and creating unique timepieces for discerning collectors. - Founding of F.P. Journe: In 1999, he founded the F.P. Journe Manufacture in Geneva, with the motto "Invenit et Fecit" (he invented and made it), underlining his commitment to designing and producing his movements from start to finish. Contributions to watchmaking : - Technical innovations: François-Paul Journe is renowned for his horological complications, notably the Chronomètre à Résonance, inspired by the work of Antide Janvier, and the Tourbillon Souverain. - International recognition: He is the only watchmaker to have won the Aiguille d'Or at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève three times, attesting to his excellence in the field. Philosophy and heritage: François-Paul Journe combines tradition and innovation, drawing inspiration from the master watchmakers of the 18th century while integrating modern technologies. His creations, produced in limited quantities, are prized by collectors and reflect his commitment to the art of watchmaking. In short, François-Paul Journe is an emblematic figure in contemporary watchmaking, combining traditional know-how with innovation, and leaving a lasting imprint on the world of haute horlogerie. He can rightly be considered the "Mozart" of independent watchmaking, following in the footsteps of his mentor, English watchmaker George Daniels.
