François-Paul Journe, born in 1957 in Marseille, is a French master watchmaker renowned for his innovative approach and respect for watchmaking traditions. He graduated from the École d'Horlogerie de Paris in 1976, and perfected his art alongside his uncle, an antique watch restorer based in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Professional background : - Independent workshop: After completing his studies, Journe opened his own workshop in Paris, where he dedicated himself to restoring exceptional timepieces and creating unique timepieces for discerning collectors. - Founding of F.P. Journe: In 1999, he founded the F.P. Journe Manufacture in Geneva, with the motto "Invenit et Fecit" (he invented and made it), underlining his commitment to designing and producing his movements from start to finish. Contributions to watchmaking : - Technical innovations: François-Paul Journe is renowned for his horological complications, notably the Chronomètre à Résonance, inspired by the work of Antide Janvier, and the Tourbillon Souverain. - International recognition: He is the only watchmaker to have won the Aiguille d'Or at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève three times, attesting to his excellence in the field.
