Andrew Grima was an influential British jewelry designer, best known for his bold, avant-garde pieces of the 1960s and 1970s. Grima's unique approach to design attracted high-profile clients, including members of the royal family, and he became one of the most celebrated jewelers of his time. He also ventured into the world of watch design, and one of his most famous collaborations was with Omega, the Swiss luxury watchmaker. In the early 1970s, Grima designed a limited series of watches for Omega called the "About Time" collection. These watches were highly unconventional, with abstract, sculptural designs that departed from traditional watchmaking aesthetics. Instead of focusing on precise timekeeping, Grima's creations emphasized the art and elegance of the watch as a wearable piece of sculpture. Some watches in the collection even masked the timepiece behind semi-precious stones, emphasizing form over function, as our example does. Grima's creations for Omega are now considered iconic, blending luxury, art and innovation. These watches are rare and highly sought-after by collectors, both for their association with Grima's distinctive style and for their historical importance in watch design.
