Up for sale this rare vintage men's Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Jumbo - an ultra-thin automatic wristwatch reference #3739/1, in a heavy solid 18k yellow-gold elegant-shaped case with an integrated 18k solid-gold Patek Philippe bracelet, manufactured in 1970's. The watch has a width 36 mm not counting a winding crown and a total weight of 100 g!
The Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse is characterized by an elliptical case, shaped between a circle and a rectangle. Its design was inspired by the principle of the “Golden Ratio”, an ancient mathematical formula that defines a divine proportion – one that has become the basis of the greatest works of art and architecture. The softly curving case and simple dial give the Golden Ellipse a sense of harmony that is not only pleasing to the eye, but also goes well with any ensemble.
The watch has a flat thin shape, 5.5 mm in thickness.
The secret behind its incredible thinness lies in the marvelous chronometer-grade Patek Philippe 240 caiber 27 jewels movement with a solid gold 22k micro-rotor, that is just 2.53 mm thin.
This oval-shaped super elegant dress watch has a stepped bezel, paired with stick hour indeces and "Dauphine" hands is the quintessence of this traditional Patek Philippe, and here it injects timeless glamour into an unusually shaped yet impossibly refine.
Born in 1977 out of the need to create a mechanical movement that could rival quartz movements in thinness and wearability, the Caliber 240 has been the star of many collections within Patek Philippe’s offerings. The micro-rotor is manufactured out of solid 22K gold. It is mounted off center on at stainless steel wheel equipped with ball bearings. This design allows the rotor to easily swing in either direction with even the slightest movement of the wrist. Outside of the observable changes or improvements, the caliber 240 remains the same after nearly 50 years in production. The caliber 240 remains a true icon within the world of fine watchmaking, a testament to timeless craftsmanship and innovation.
The movement is stamped with a Geneva Hallmark (Poinçon de Genève), epitomizing excellence and perfection of Swiss mechanical watches gold era. The movement is excellent-running and keeping time.
The watch retains its original solid-gold winding crown with a Patek logo, and a scratch-free sapphire crystal.
The 22 mm wide bracelet is thick and substantial. The watch would fit up to 8 1/2" (220 mm) size wrist, the clasp closes tight and has 3 positions to adjust it's length.
This highly collectible timepiece would be an excellent financial investment, always raising its value.
It is ready to wear and enjoy, and to grace your vintage watches collection.
The photos have been taken of the actual watch offered for sale. It comes with no box and papers, but I guarantee its authenticity.
