A pioneer in miniaturisation, Patek Philippe's transition to wristwatches saw the innovation of this complex calendar mechanism for more minor cases.
In 2012, the cushion-shaped case came back with the ultra-thin split-seconds mono-pusher chronograph Ref. 5950, followed by the ultra-thin perpetual calendar Ref. 5940, exuding contemporary style at 37mm. Expertly crafted in 18K gold at Patek Philippe's workshops, the case undergoes meticulous traditional techniques and hand-polishing for a flawless finish. The watch features seamlessly integrated strap lugs, a sapphire-crystal snapback, and an interchangeable solid yellow gold snapback.
The present lot, reference 5940, houses the modernised micro-rotor cal. 240 Q movement, revealing meticulous finishing through its exhibition case back. With perlage, hand-polished edges, and Côtes de Genève stripes, based on our research, only 11 examples of reference 5940J have appeared publicly on the market to date, and this is the 12th example to grace the market.
