Ressence Type 1 Squared Limited Edition Brushed Steel Dial Titanium Case

Founded in 2010, Ressence has become one of the most visually unique and technically innovative independent watchmakers of the last decade. As part of this drive to create visually novel timepieces, Ressence fit their timepieces with one of the most unique displays in all of watchmaking, a collection of small subdial satellites that rotate around the display as time passes, thus resulting in a watch whose display is constantly changing. Designing watches the likes of which have never been seen before, Ressence’s unique approach to watchmaking has created a design language that is traceable only to them. Characteristically unconventional, to put it lightly, Ressence utilizes spherical discs displaying the hours, minutes, seconds, and days that rotate through the displays of their timepieces to create an ever-evolving appearance for their watches. Powered by a system called the ‘Ressence Orbital Convex System’ (cal. ROCS 1.3) that comprises of 27 gears and 40 jewels with painted engraved indications, the Type 1² is a true feat of craftsmanship and engineering that truly seems to have come from a sci-fi movie rather than an artisanal Swiss watchmaker. Made of titanium and featuring a ruthenium grey dial, this example is a beautifully monochromatic specially commissioned limited edition timepiece of just 2 pieces as per its numbered caseback that is understated in design but stunning in execution. Wound and set via its caseback and thus lacking a winding crown, the Type 1² wears incredibly neat on the wrist and thanks to its welded-style lugs and pleasing cushion shape, it is a watch that wears much smaller than its 42mm diameter might have you first believe. THE CROWN In accordance with its crown-less design, the Type 1² has to be wound and set using the semi-circular lever that is recessed within its caseback. This also results in a symmetrical timepiece that is a delight to wear.
