The present ref. 6264 circa 1970 with a 2.3 million serial number is one of these exceptionally rare examples. Instantly recognizable, it showcases a creamy white backdrop, with the “DAYTONA” insignia prominently displayed at the top of the register at 6 o’clock. The eye-catching “Paul Newman” dial features attractive luminous plots that have aged uniformly to an attractive buttery hue. Notably, this “Panda Paul Newman" dial configuration, almost exclusive to references 6262 and 6264, is characterized by a striking two-tone black and white color scheme that allows the red “Daytona” designation to take center stage.
Furthermore, the dial of the present piece is extremely well-preserved with hardly any signs of ageing, maintaining an attractive overall condition over the years. Fresh to the market, this much-treasured ref. 6264 is complete with its original certificate and presentation box, even along with a service guarantee from Rolex Sapporo Japan dated 1975, confirming that the watch has been overhauled with the crystal and gasket replaced. Offered by a distinguished Japanese collector, the present timepiece would be a monumental addition to any collection of fine vintage watches.
