In December 2020, the Phillips auction house auctioned off another Rolex Daytona belonging to acting legend Paul Newman at its “Racing Pulse” auction in New York. It changed hands for $5,475,000. A Cosmograph Daytona reference 6263, called “Big Red” by Rolex fans. Paul Newman received the watch as a gift from his wife Joanne Woodward in 1983 for their 25th wedding anniversary. The case back is engraved with “Drive slowly Joanne”. ROLEX Oyster Cosmograph Daytona “Big Red”, reference 6263, which was built from 1971-1988. It was the last model to be built with a hand-wound movement, caliber 727 (Valjoux 72). It was characterized by the black Bakelite bezel and the screwed pushers.
