Rare Rolex Oyster Perpetual Precision Explorer Military issue stainless steel gentleman's wristwatch with the Burford dial, reference no. 6150, serial no. 931xxx, circa 1953, matt-black Explorer 3-6-9 'Burford dial' made for the MOD, printed 'Rolex Oyster Perpetual Precision' with a circled 'T', Mercedes hands with centre seconds, Rolex screw down crown with cross, A296 automatic movement, the polished screw bubble-back with issue markings 'HS.10.CD 931.22' and dated '2.53' to the inside case back, black NATO type fabric strap, 35mm - ** with a vintage Rolex green box - ** The H.S or Hydrographic Service Rolex watches are particularly rare. The dials were of a different style and type to the normal Rolex production as they were produced for the MOD at Herstmonceux by a company called Burfords. , Private Provenance. Box and Papers - with a period Rolex box, no papers. Movement - appears currently functioning. Dial - appears in good general condition with nice patina tot he markers - see images for guidance. Glass - surface scratches present and would benefit with a replacement. Hands - good patina as expected, the lume inset to the hour hand has part loss - see image. Case - typical light marks to the case as expected, the case back has had some polishing and the issue markings are quite faint with the numbers partially indistinct, but present - see images. Crown - Rolex crown with the cross, adjusting correctly. Strap - with a modern black NATO fabric strap.
