BEST DEAL ON THE MARKET FOR THIS CONDITION! The King Seiko line was initially developed by the Daini Seikosha division as a luxury hand-wind watch to compete with the Suwa-developed Grand Seiko line. However, the first automatic King Seiko was in fact developed by Suwa Seikosha. The high-beat 56 series caliber, which powered this early automatic King Seiko, was subsequently used to drive a diverse range of King and Grand Seiko models, becoming arguably Seiko’s most successful automatic movement. The Seiko 5626 was initially launched in 1968 with a redesigned case, featuring a monobloc type with an external regulator, a more streamlined profile, multi-surfaced lugs, and gold case-back medallions. However, by 1971, the design underwent a change. The external regulator was dismissed, and the monobloc gold case-back medallions were replaced with a screw-back case devoid of medallions, yet maintaining a shape nearly identical to the previous monobloc model. 1.
