The Watch Here we have a 2020 Steinhart Ocean 39 Vintage GMT Premium ETA. This design clearly takes its inspiration from the Rolex GMT-Master II. The 39mm polished and satin-brushed stainless steel case curves over your wrist with tapered drilled lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 14mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a signed crown with deep knurling for grip. A polished and brushed unidirectional stainless steel bezel has a deeply engraved ceramic 24-hour scale filled in aged SuperLumiNova in glossy blue and red, holding a domed sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside above a matte black dial. An outer minute track has disc and baton indexes marking the hours; at 12 o’clock, an inverted triangle, a date window sits at 3 o’clock, Cathedral hands coated in aged Super-LumiNova are complemented by a red GMT hand and a lollipop weighted sweeping second-hand. At 12 o’clock, we have the Steinhart motif, and at 6 o’clock, “Ocean 39 GMT” completes this rugged vintage-inspired traveller's sports watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with a deep engraving of Poseidon on his seahorse, inside an Automatic ETA Cal. 2893-2, 21 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour; this movement comes with hacking, hand winding and quick-set date for your convenience. To adjust the GMT hand, you pull the crown out to position one and rotate it clockwise; turning the crown anticlockwise will adjust the date. The watch comes paired with its 22mm stainless steel Oyster style satin brushed bracelet with a signed folding safety deployment clasp, and this watch is sold with its original Steinhart box, swing tag and paperwork.
Personal Note This Steinhart Ocean 39 Vintage GMT, part of their premium range and powered by the ETA 2893-2, has to he one of my favourite Steinhart watches to date. It tip toes the line of homage watch perfectly, giving undeniable Rolex GMT-vibes, but putting heavy emphasis on vintage. These are the Steinhart's I like the most as they cover a genre that allows collectors to enjoy an aesthetic without having to have an eye-watering amount of money at the ready for a true vintage example. Do not hesitate to add this model to your collection today!
The Brand Steinhart was founded in 2001 in Augsburg, Germany, by Gunther Steinhart, a watchmaker. They launched the Ocean 1, which they sell online and through distributors. Simon Schmidt designed it, and three watchmakers, Thilo Barnessoi, Reinhold Runge, and Pia Zellerhoff, put it together.
