Vetta Cronografo Ermetico Gilt Dial

This is a beautiful and stunning 38mm Chronograph by Vetta, Circa 1940s. The dial is lacquered glossy black, with yellow gilt printed numbers and scale completely intact and with hardly any age patina. The hands are original gold feuille hands. The word Cronographo is beautifully printed in gold and follows the lines of the case. The 38mm diameter stainless steel is massive ‘IMPERMEABLE’ (waterproof) case is equipped with a screw-in back. The case appears unpolished with sharp edges, thick lugs and clear serial numbers visible in the back. The case is 12.5mm thick, giving the watch a nice presence on the wrist The movement is the manual wind Valjoux 22 movement, 17 jewels, 14 ligne – 31.3 mm column wheel controlled chronograph, with two sub-dials, one as 60 seconds, counter and the other as 30 minutes counter. It has a beat of 18,000 per hour and a power-reserve of 42 hours. The Valjoux 22 was a high-grade movement that stayed in production all the way from 1914-1974.
