Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1988 and its subsequent sale on 15th June 1988 附帶盒子及後補資料庫精粹 The reference 3970 was introduced by Patek Philippe in 1986 as the successor to the 2499 and a line of perpetual calendar chronographs that had become an icon of 20th century watchmaking. Now discontinued, the 3970 had a production period lasting up until 2004, but within that time heralded the “perpetual calendar chronograph” title which is sought after by collectors today. The watch was produced during a transitional period for Patek Philippe in succession to the original 1518 and 2499 and can be associated with a neo-vintage phase of Patek wristwatches. The present 3970 wristwatch’s design is reminiscent of historic Patek Philippe models and the preceding perpetual calendar chronographs, featuring a traditional display with three subsidiary dials: a leap year indication and 30-minute totaliser at three o’clock, a moonphase and date display at six, a chronograph 12-hour totaliser and running seconds at 9, and twin apertures for the day and month at twelve - the present one in French.
