Over four decades have gone by since the original Nautilus came to be, and the 3710/1A brings an additional complication, preserving a touch of history while staying true to the times. To understand the significance behind this timepiece, we must travel back in time—1976, to be precise. Patek Philippe Nautilus changed the course of traditional watches at the time, bringing a whole new aesthetic to luxury sports watches. The 3700s series is said to have been designed by the iconic Gerald Genta in a matter of five minutes. The name is derived from renowned sea-inspired novels of old. The watch was meant to take after porthole windows that adorned transatlantic ocean liners, including elements inspired by the ocean’s depths. 3710/1A was introduced in 1998 and is the first Nautilus watch to have an additional complication apart from the date feature—a power reserve indicator. It is also marked by “Jumbo” proportions, taking after the original 3700, making a 42mm diameter and 8mm thickness available once more to discerning collectors. The dial is matte black with Roman numerals and the Indication de Zone de Remontage power reserve indicator sits in the middle of 11 and 12 o’clock. A “Patek Philippe Geneve” is located at 6 o’clock and a date complication at 3 o’clock. The bracelet in steel comes with a granular, beveled, and polished look. Powered by a self-winding caliber 330 SC, the movement is set through 29 jewels with a pure gold rotor crafted in the Patek Philippe touch, finished with Geneva stripes in circular motifs. The much-coveted timepiece was discontinued in 2006, making it a collector’s dream watch. Patek Philippe
